[ 09/10/2007 ] POS-X Releases the Next Generation XPC500 All-In-One TouchPC

(Bellingham, WA, September 10th, 2007) - POS-X Inc., manufacturer of a complete line of Point of Sale peripherals, recently unveiled its next generation Touch PC, the XPC500 Series. High-end Intel® chipset components have been paired with the industry leading touch technology found in the POS-X XTS4000 Touch Monitor to create a system to meet the demands of the harshest environments, while remaining cost-effective.

The XPC500 is driven by an Intel® 945GZ chipset motherboard and comes standard with an Intel® Celeron® processor clocked at 2.8 GHz, 512 MB of DDR2 RAM, and 80 GB hard drive. Options exist to upgrade the processor to a single or dual core Intel Pentium 4, and the RAM can be increased to 2 GB. There are 4 USB, 1 parallel, and 3 serial ports that give you the ability to connect the necessary peripherals. A 10/100 Mbps network interface card allows standard networking protocols. As the focal point of a point-of-sale system, the XPC500 has been optimized to run either Windows XP Pro or XP Home.

The industrial 2nd generation base provides bump-free operation, where the low center of gravity prevents residual vibration to the monitor during normal operation. The base has a 90° tilting range allowing the XPC500 to be positioned for the best viewing angle. Removing the base reveals VESA screw holes, providing the ability to attach a standard VESA mount which allows the XPC500 to be mounted to a wall, pole, or swing-arm. These options provide tremendous versatility in point-of-sale setup and placing the unit in where it will work best.

To increase durability, POS-X designed the XPC500 with a rugged metal back-plate that is also splash-resistant to withstand the rigors of messy restaurant environments. The Resistive Technology touch screen uses a thicker than industry standard 2.8 mm glass and is rated at over 35 million touches per single location. The combination of tilting screen, low center of gravity, splash-resistant design, and durable touch screen surface ensure years of worry free use in restaurant stations or rough retail environments.

The XPC500’s accessories include a mountable magnetic stripe reader and customer display, saving space where you need it most. The Xm130 3-track bi-directional magnetic stripe reader mounts on either the left or right side. Configuration changes can be made via a text editor, simplifying the configuration process. The Xp2200 rear mount customer display utilizes a vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) to show two rows of 20 characters that are 5.5mm wide by 10.5mm tall. Configuration software gives the Xp2200 the ability to switch between popular command modes.
